It's no secret that Florida has a large population of seniors. Specifically, 21.3% of Florida's population is 65 or older. One reason that Florida arguably appeals to this segment of the population is that its temperate weather can be more pleasant for vintage bodies. However, a new study has found that life expectancy varies slightly between Florida's counties. And the county with the best life expectancy in one study - Collier - was home to a Florida city - Naples - that has been called the best place to live in the nation

The Life Expectancy Study: The website Stacker used 2024 County Health Rankings & Roadmaps from the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute to identify the counties in Florida with the longest life expectancy.

While Lee and St. John's counties came in second and third places, respectively, Collier County came in first with a life expectancy of 84.7 years which is 6.2 years more than the state average and around 7 years more than the nation's (77.5.)

Collier County is home to cities like Naples, Marco Island, and Everglades City. The median home price is around $760,000.

The U.S. News + World Report Study: This national publication named Naples, a city in Collier County, as the best place to live in the entire nation in its 2024-2025 list of the best places to live in the USA. U.S. News + World report praised Naples' pristine beaches, golfing, and shopping, as well as its proximity to larger cities like Tampa and Miami.

Perhaps this is why Naples' nickname in some circles is the Paradise Coast.

Livability: Niche gives Naples an A for livability and residents rate it 4 out of 5 stars. While some lamented the traffic, most praised the beauty. One resident wrote, in part:

"Naples, FL, my lifelong home, embodies tranquil beauty amidst rapid growth. The city's expansion, while welcoming families, grapples with burgeoning traffic, the city's main drawback. Despite congested streets, Naples remains relatively safe, offering a haven for residents and tourists alike. Its pristine beaches, vibrant cultural scene, and lush greenery create an idyllic setting..."
