It's hard not to love a diner. You get to enjoy comfort food, large portion sizes, reasonable prices, and a nostalgic vibe all in one. And Florida has some nice diner options - like Trip's, Big Pink, and Southern Charm Kitchen, to name a couple of examples. Unfortunately, one restaurant in this niche - Tick Tok Diner - was recently temporarily shut down after a state inspection.

About Tick Tok Diner: This diner is not far from central Florida attractions, which means that it is sometimes crowded with both locals and tourists. It serves typical diner fare including shrimp and grits, catfish, and an extensive brunch.

The diner has been reviewed a whopping 4,000 times on Google reviews and earns a 4 out of 5 rating. Many people complimented the friendly service and tasty food. A reviewer named Alan wrote:

"What a wonderful find! Family-owned and operated. Such a refreshing change from the chains... Fantastic service, friendly and welcoming staff! Ladonna, our server was absolutely wonderful! Excellent food. The shrimp and grits are fantastic. Highly recommended if you're in the area!"

What Happened At Inspection?: According to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, an inspection occurred on July 15, 2024. At that time, 27 violations were noted.

Examples of basic violations were the observation of dead roaches, bathrooms not "completely enclosed with tight-fitting, self-closing doors," a floor soiled with debris, standing water in the reach-in cooler, a wall soiled with grease, and heavily soiled ovens.

Intermediate violations came for a soiled cutting board, the handwash sink not being accessible at all times, and no paper towels at the handwash sink.

Examples of high-priority violations were the observation of live flies, the observation of live roaches, rodent activity as evidenced by droppings, and cold foods being kept higher than 41 degrees. As a result of some of the above violations, the restaurant temporarily shut down.

At a follow-up inspection on July 18th, there were three basic violations, but none that were an immediate threat to the public so the restaurant was free to reopen.

Please note that an inspection is one moment in time and not necessarily how a restaurant conducts itself every day.
