Floridians Can Now Buy Emergency Food Buckets That Have A Shelf Life Of 25 Years At Florida Costcos

After writing about retail and grocery stores for Newsbreak for the past couple of years, I have learned that many Floridians embrace warehouse stores and buying in bulk. Specifically, articles about Costco always generate much interest. Floridians who shop at any of Costco's 33 Florida stores know that you can get much more than groceries at the store. For example, Costco also sells gold bars as one example. And now, it is selling a unique new item - emergency food buckets.

About The New Food Buckets: According to the Costco website, the food buckets offer various meals that only need water - including entrees and sides, breakfasts, and drinks - all in one bucket. The meals reportedly last up to 25 years.

Inclusions in one of the buckets are cheesy macaroni, teraki rice, pasta and vegetables, and pasta alfredo. Breakfast choices include apple cinnamon cereal and crunchy granola. One bucket contains 25,280 calories and 150 servings.

The buckets are $79.99 and reviewers give them 4.4 out of 5 stars. Some complained that a few meals in their bucket were not sealed properly and spilled onto other meals. Others said the portion sizes are small. However, a few people who had actually eaten the meals noted that the taste was not bad. For example, a reviewer with the handle Coronado wrote:

"Great for additional meals for camping overnight. Tasty and easy to prepare. Kids don’t always want to eat the fresh catch of the day when outdoors, so I find these meals keep them happy and full! I am sure they would be good in an emergency too."

Floridians who have been in Florida for a while know that Florida can have inclement weather where one can lose power for long periods of time. But keep in mind that you would still need hot water to prepare the freeze dried meals.
