FL Restaurant Known For Its Wings And Waitresses, Wing House, Shut Down After State Inspection

I would never try to claim that Florida is known for its chicken wings in the way that New York is. However, Florida does have some eateries that are appreciated for their wings. Examples are Bethune Grill in Daytona Beach and Wing King in Tampa. However, for those who want a predictable experience, there are always chains like Beef O'Brady's and Wingstop. Unfortunately, one store of the latter, in Sanford, was recently temporarily shut down after a state inspection.

About Wing House: Although the chain actually began in the Sunshine State 30 years ago, there are only 19 locations in Florida today. As you might imagine from its name, the restaurant specializes in chicken wings and other types of pub food like burgers, fajitas, and pizza.

The waitresses wear memorable uniforms that one might argue garner as much attention as the chain's wings.

The location in question receives mixed reviews, earning 3.9 out of 5 stars on Google reviews. Some complained about long wait times. Some say the location doesn't feel updated. A reviewer named Vickie wrote:

"This location felt run down even though the place was clean. The food was - ehhh - okay. The Caesar salad was very good. The beer (was) ice cold."

What Happened At Inspection?: According to data from a database maintained by the publication The Tallahassee Democrat, an inspection occurred on July 15, 2024. At that time, 17 violations were noted.

Examples of basic violations came because the floor was covered with standing water, there was an accumulation of debris inside the ware washing machine, and there was a hole in the wall.

An intermediate violation came because the paper towel dispenser above the handwash sink was not able to dispense paper towels.

Examples of high-priority violations were for roach activity as evidenced by live roaches, the dish machine chlorine sanitizer not being at proper strength, and because the eatery was operating with an expired Division of Hotels and Restaurants license.

Because of some of the above violations, the restaurant at 2935 S Orlando Drive was temporarily shut down. After two follow-up inspections on July 16, 2024, the restaurant had 10 violations. But none were considered an immediate threat to the public, so the restaurant "met inspection standards" and was therefore free to reopen.

Please note that an inspection is one moment in time and not necessarily how a restaurant conducts itself every day.
