The Fallout Of Sudden FL Badcock Closures: Financial Losses & Deep Discounts With Store Liquidation

    2024-07-31

Floridians who grew up in central Florida in previous decades may be familiar with the home goods and appliance store Badcock Home Furniture. The franchise was founded in Florida - although it would later be bought out by Conn's, who recently filed for bankruptcy and announced store closures. And while these closures hit employees and communities nationwide, some in Florida are already reeling - while customers now have access to some deep discounts. This article will look at the fallout of these closures.

A Store Owner In The Panhandle Is Feeling Financial Distress: Sonja Reinhardt owned Badcock stores in Panama City and Lynn Haven. Her stores served the community for over 30 years. Both she and her mother ran them, but she has now learned that they will close. Reinhardt admits that the fallout will be financially difficult, explaining to My Panhandle.com, in part:

“We got a call from corporate stating that they had declared bankruptcy, and they would be closing all of our stores...it’s been a family-owned business for a very, very long time...I was hoping to retire one day, you know, it’s like a punch in the gut...I’m worried and I’m mad today."

A Facebook Post From A Holme's County Badcock: A Badcock in north Florida's Bonifay was honest and detailed about the closure, writing on Facebook, in part:

"...We want you (to) hear it directly from us. We found out Tuesday afternoon, that after 120 years, Badcock Home Furnishings and more will be closing ALL stores. Yes, EVERY store...We've shed many many tears over the last few days and have prayed more than we ever have...This closure is not our fault or the fault of our customers or the small towns where we are located. Our small towns have been the backbone of our businesses for 120 years...Today, Conns and Badcock will begin the liquidation sale which means a BIG sale for you!..."

The Sales: Badcock's home page now lists banners that outline the scope of the sale. Bedding and electronics are up to 40% off, furniture is up to 50% off, and appliances are up to 30% off.
