It's no secret that during the last couple of years, billionaires have been moving some of their business interests or headquarters to the Sunshine State. I've written about Stephen Ross and John Paulson moving their companies to Florida. But one billionaire who was born and raised in Florida - Jorge Mas - has made news for his association with Lionel Messi as well as for his company earning record-breaking profits in the 2nd quarter of 2024.

About Jorge Mas: Mas actually grew up in Florida and chose to attend the University of Miami instead of Dartmouth for its proximity to the family business - MasTec - an infrastructure services company originally founded in another form by his father for which he would eventually become Chairman of The Board upon his father's passing.

Mass is the owner of the soccer team Inter Miami, and he made headlines when he lured professional soccer superstar Lionel Messi away from other teams to play in Florida.

By 2023, Inter Miami had doubled its revenue because of Messi. According to Forbes, Mas is worth approximately $1.8 billion.

A Record Second Quarter For MasTec: The company recently reported a revenue of $2.96 billion in the second quarter of 2024, which was a record. The company reportedly expects to earn $12.4 billion in revenue this year, and a 1.1% profit margin, equalling $131 million.

According to the company's website, the Florida-based company is currently involved in some of the largest infrastructure construction projects across the country.

The author is not affiliated with MasTec or any other infrastructure companies.
