Florida's First Of A Speciality Discount Store, Daiso, Is Now Officially Planned

Over the past couple of months, I've written about several diverse specialty retailers that were opening new Florida stores. Examples are Presidente, Lotte Market, and Compare Foods Supermarket, to name a few. And now, there is a new specialty store on the horizon - Daiso - and Tampa will be home to Florida's first store.

About Daiso: This is a 50-year-old, family-owned company that strives to be your one-stop shop for every household need. They sell various discount items (around 100,000) in categories like home decor, stationery, food, toys, and novelties, to name a few examples. There are 6,000 locations of the Japanese-headquartered store around the world and 100 in the United States.

I'd normally offer a review from a Floridian, but since there are no Daiso stores in Florida yet, I can report that shoppers in Texas give Daiso 4.2 out of 5 stars on Yelp. Some compare it to a dollar store. A reviewer named Matthew wrote, in part:

"...I'd strongly recommend going here at least once. Extremely cheap by design (everything is under about $5), and while they don't have everything, you can find most basic home or office supplies here, among many other things. Since it's a Japanese company, most items sold here are extremely useful, even if some of them are a bit niche."

The New Florida Store That Is Planned: A Daiso is planned for the Northdale Promenade in Tampa and opening is slated for the first quarter of 2025. This Tampa store will reportedly be the first to open in the Sunshine State.

The author is not affiliated with Daiso or any other retailers.
