FL NY-Style Deli "Beloved" By Locals & Visitors, Bogart's American Kitchen, Shut Down Via Inspection

It's not hard to understand why New York-style delis are popular in Florida. The Sunshine State has a high population of former New Yorkers who miss the taste of home. Unfortunately, one restaurant in this genre, Cooper City's Bogart's American Kitchen, was recently temporarily shut down after a state inspection.

About Bogart's American Kitchen: This eatery has been serving the community for five years. Although it serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, many reviewers mention its breakfast. It offers live entertainment, specials, and large portions.

Cooper City regulars and visitors give the Bogart's at 2721 N Hiatus Road 4.3 out of 5 stars on Google reviews. Many compliment the tasty food, portion sizes, and friendly service. A reviewer named Kevin wrote:

"Bogart’s serves a great breakfast at a great price. And their coffee is excellent. A neighborhood staple beloved by locals and visitors alike. Bonus: their omelets are king-sized!"

However, a reviewer named Barbara recounted a bad experience, writing, in part:

"...My daughter's bagel was bad. My son-in-law got the chicken fried steak and eggs (and) was sick before he could get home..."

What Happened At Inspection?: According to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, an inspection occurred on July 23, 2024. At that time, 19 violations were noted.

Basic violations came because of the observation of dead flies in a "zapper device," a cutting board that was no longer cleanable, flour being stored on the floor, and uncovered cooked potatoes in a walk-in cooler.

Intermediate violations came because of a can opener blade with a "mold-like substance or slime," and no availability of a probe thermometer to measure food products.

Examples of high-priority violations were rodent activity as evidenced by over 20 rodent droppings, roast beef being held at higher than 41 degrees (which resulted in a stop sale,) and raw eggs being stored over cut tomatoes.

As a result of some of the above violations, the restaurant was temporarily shut down. At a follow-up inspection on July 24, 2024, six violations remained, but none were considered an immediate threat to the public, so the eatery was able to reopen.

Please note that an inspection is one moment in time and not necessarily how a restaurant conducts itself every day.
