FL's Tiny "Town Of Murals" Is Full Of Natural Beauty & Relatively Inexpensive Housing

Florida has no shortage of charming small towns that offer unique features you won't see anywhere else. Examples are Micanopy, Mount Dora, and Cedar Key, to name a few examples. But there's another option in Florida's Highlands County - a town that has not one but two nicknames and gorgeous landscapes plus reasonably-priced housing. Let's have a look at Lake Placid.

About Lake Placid: When I say this town is small, I mean it because the population of Lake Placid is only around 2,500. You'll find it between Sarasota and Fort Pierce. And although it isn't necessarily well-known, that doesn't make it less deserving of your attention.

This unique town has two nicknames - the “Caladium Capital of the World” and "The Town Of Murals." Those who want to check out Lake Placid should most definitely try a self-guided tour of the town's colorful murals.

But that's not all Lake Placid has to offer. In addition to its two nicknames, Lake Placid is also known as "Lake Country" because it has no fewer than 27 freshwater lakes. The lakes plus the area's rolling hills make for a stunning landscape.

There are also some interesting ways to spend your time indoors if you'd like. Visit Henscratch Farms Vineyard and Winery to sample award-winning wines and fresh fruit.

If vodka, gin, or moonshine holds more interest, check out the Sugar Sand Distillery which is part of a sugar cane farm.

Reasonably Priced Housing: Beauty and small-town life aren't the only things that Lake Placid had going for it. Compared to other areas of Florida, it is reasonably priced.

The median home price in Lake Placid is $305,000, and the median price for an apartment is $1544 according to Zillow, which is 27% lower than the national average.
