FL Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen With Mixed Reviews Shut Down After State Inspection - 14 Violatations

Floridians who are craving one of the huge fried chicken sandwiches that have become so popular have plenty of options. You can get them at fast food chains, independent restaurants, and even grocery stores. But one option - a Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen in Clermont - was recently shut down after a state inspection.

About Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen: Younger people probably know Popeye's for its massive chicken sandwiches. However, before Popeye's introduced this item, it was known for its Cajun flavors. It is headquartered in Miami and there are 235 Popeyes locations in Florida.

The restaurant in question at 16530 SR 50 earns mixed reviews, averaging 3 out of 5 stars on Google reviews. Although some complimented the flavors of the food, many complained about wait times and customer service. A reviewer named Samuel wrote, in part:

"...The employees are...inefficient and disrespectful. Waited over 15 minutes for a simple chicken sandwich meal...They all looked like they (didn't) want to work, and it truly shows in the way they behaved and (didn't) follow basic sanitation rules...(T)here are other Popeyes that actually serve fresh chicken. This location is like a vivid nightmare on Earth..."

What Happened At Inspection?: According to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, an inspection occurred on July 26, 2024. At that time, 14 violations were noted.

Examples of basic violations were a broken air conditioning system, an "accumulation of (a) black/green mold-like substance" in the ice machine bin, pans on a dish rack "wet nesting," an "accumulation of black substance/grease/food debris" in the microwave, and french fries and biscuits being exposed to condensation from the air conditioner.

Examples of high-priority violations were for the observation of live flying insects and a stop-sale order because the french fries and biscuits mentioned above were not in a "wholesome, sound condition."

As a result of some of the above violations, the restaurant temporarily closed. A follow-up on July 27, 2024, required additional inspection, but the restaurant could reopen because none of the violations were an immediate threat to the public. At a follow-up inspection on July 29, 2024, the restaurant "met inspection standards."

Please note that an inspection is one glimpse in time and not necessarily indicative of how a restaurant conducts itself every day.
