After Decades, FL's "Iconic" Canyon Restaurant Has Abruptly Closed - & A Replacement Has Been Named

Unfortunately, longevity in Florida's restaurants does not always ensure that a restaurant will continue to stay open. In August, I wrote about a Florida Buca di Beppo closing after 25 years. And now, a longtime eatery that has been "iconic" - Fort Lauderdale's Canyon Restaurant - has abruptly closed. And it has been revealed that it will become a steakhouse.

About Canyon Restaurant: This restaurant has been serving the Fort Lauderdale community for twenty-five years. Although it serves Asian and Central American dishes, it was probably best known for its prickly pear margarita. It was a place where people celebrated their special occasions or gathered with family.

Patrons give it 4.4 out of 5 stars on Google reviews. Many rave about the food and service. A reviewer named Diana wrote, in part:

"Canyon, as always, was awesome! We love the Prickly Pear Margarita which came to us promptly by our (favorite) server Melia- who is friendly and professional - and always has a smile. The Tuna Tartare appetizer was awesome as was our entrees - and...that chocolate bread pudding! Thanks for the wonderful meal and atmosphere."

The Closure: In late August, the eatery took to its Instagram page and posted a message that announced the sale of the restaurant and invited patrons to join them in the evening to create "one last night" of memories.

The New Owners and Steakhouse: The Canyon property was sold to was to Gioia Hospitality Group, which was founded by Thomas Angelo, the co-owner of Fiola Miami, a Michelin Guide-recommended eatery.

The new eatery will be called Daniel’s and will be led by Chef Daniel Ganem, who also serves as the executive chef at Fiola Miami.
