Florida did not manage to get through August of 2024 without having some manufacturing layoffs. I've previously written about the August announcement of the closure for Florida's Aviara Boats' manufacturing plant. That closure will result in the layoff of 80 employees. And now, a plant for Legget and Platt is closing down in Plant City and laying off nearly 80, according to the Tampa Business Journal.

About Legget & Platt: This company has been manufacturing products for around 130 years. They make bedding products, furniture, textiles, and specialty items for the automotive industry.

In 2023, the company earned a revenue of $4.72 billion. This was a decrease from 2022 when it earned $5.14 billion.

Employees give this employer 3.5 out of 5 stars on Indeed. While many say it is a fun place to work with good opportunities, a few mentioned managerial problems.

The Florida Layoff: According to a warn letter dated August 22, 2024, the company will be closing its manufacturing plant located at 3775 Fancy Farms Road in Plant City. As a result, it will be laying off approximately 82 people. The employees are not represented by a union and there are no bumping rights. Separations are expected to begin in October of 2024. Many affected positions are related to production and production support.

According to Manufacturing Dive, in May of 2023, the company shut down its manufacturing plants in Tampa and Spring Hill and conciliated those facilities' operations to the Plant City plant, which is now closing down.
