Florida To Possibly Lose All Of Its 32 LL Flooring Stores With The Company's Liquidation - 50% Off
2024-09-09
Update: LL Flooring Stores has now announced that it has found a buyer, Miami-based F9 Investments, who will buy 219 stores along with LL Flooring's Virginia distribution center. 211 stores are still set to close.
For many Floridians, fixing up one's home is something that, with the right materials, can be done DIY. Floridians who wanted new floors had options like Lowe's, Home Deport, and LL Flooring (formerly known as Lumber Liquidators.) Unfortunately, those wanting to shop at the latter will no longer have that option - as Florida is losing all of its LL Flooring stores, as well as the jobs that came with them.
About LL Flooring, Its Recent Difficulties, And Florida Closures: This company began in 1993 and expanded so that in 2024 it had 400 stores over 47 states. That will be changing as locations throughout the nation will close. According to the company's website, it is one of the premier flooring retailers in the United States. Some Floridians may know LL Flooring by its previous name - Lumber Liquidators (it rebranded its name in 2020.)
The company filed for bankruptcy in August of 2024 but reportedly indicated that it was negotiating with parties interested in buying the business. At that time, 300 stores were to remain open, and 94 were to close, with Florida losing five stores in the cities of Clearwater, Florida City, Gainsville, St. Augustine, and Tampa.
Some Floridians have expressed satisfaction with the company. For example, a Tampa store receives 4.2 out of 5 stars on Google reviews. A reviewer named Mildred wrote, in part:
"They are the best, everyone there has been very helpful and I just can’t say enough about how they have helped me take the merchandise out of my car and not complain about it. I hope you stay in business for a long time and keep your employees also."
The Liquidation And The Loss Of 32 Florida Stores And Jobs: The company has reportedly determined that providing the most value to its creditors means liquidating since it was unable to find a buyer. To that end, it will begin closing its stores in mid-September and around 2,000 employees across the nation will reportedly lose their jobs.
The company is home to the following Florida stores, which will close:

So sad to see this company close. I live in Naples, FL, average middle class. Purchased my flooring from Lumber Liquidators. Staff very helpful, & am very happy w/the products I purchased. I returned to shop at our local Lumber Liquidators for cleaning products & items. I feel so badly 😢 for the employees.

Lumber Liquidators had to compete with Lowes, Home Depot, Shaw Flooring, Mohawk, ProSource, Carpet One, Abby, Floors to Go, and innumerable privately owned flooring retailers and online retailers. They went from an online only retailer to brick and mortar and couldn’t handle the competition.
