Publix's Purchase Of FL Shopping Centers Fuels Speculation That It May Build Some New "Mega" Stores

Many Floridians are aware that Publix has been aggressively expanding and buying up real estate in the Sunshine State. I've written about Publix listing 21 new Florida stores as "coming soon" on its website. I've also written about how the company has been buying out its landlords in shopping centers like The Ramblewood Square Shopping Center in Coral Springs for $59 million as well as Davie Shopping Center and Regency Square at Broward for $83 million. These moves have led to speculation that the company may be gearing up to build some "mega" stores. Let's have a look:

The Speculation About "Mega" Stores: The Miami New Times recently published a piece in which it speculated that "mega" Publix stores may be coming to Broward County due to the purchase of the Davie and Coral Springs shopping centers mentioned above.

    The publication wrote, in part:

"These purchases could mean that the chain is planning on renovating or expanding said existing stores, further confirming rumors of mega stores slowly opening across the state..."

What Are The "Mega" Stores? What Do They Feature?: Some newer, slightly larger Publix stores have enhanced amenities like burrito, wine, and sushi bars; poke bowl and smoothie bars; plus coffee bars, and pizza and popcorn stations. I've written about such a Publix at the Gandy Shopping Center going viral.

There's another at Wesley Chappel's Innovation Springs. This new concept earns 4.6 out of 5 stars on Google reviews. A reviewer named KJ wrote:

"We go here at least (three times) a week. The hot pizza available for lunch, as well as the sushi, and food bowls, are amazing! Pours Cafe is a great new concept too. Seating is available to enjoy your hot food and fresh drinks at the store. Love this new concept!"

Some newer locations have a second-floor dining area, as pictured at the top of this article.

The next location for one of the Publix stores with enhanced amenities is not certain, but it is arguably fun to speculate about.

The author is not affiliated with Publix or any other grocers or retailers.

owning the building allows for Publix to have autonomy to do the simplest things in the stores. Publix can't fix their own roofs without permission from a landlord. so owning the plaza eliminates that red tape
