Macy's Has Sold One Of Its FL Stores To The Parent Co Of "Massive" Grocer With Food Court

Floridians have plenty of grocery store choices - from large players like Publix and Walmart to small businesses like Duckweed Urban Grocery and Detwiler's. And now, one of Florida's smaller grocers - Lotte Plaza Market - has just purchased a Macy's store in Pembroke Pines for $13 million.

About Lotte Market In Florida: Lotte is technically an Asian market, but it has a large appeal because of its international food court, huge produce department, and housewares section.

The publication The Orlando Real has noted the sheer size of the produce department, writing, in part:

"This place has one of the widest varieties of produce I’ve ever seen. It spans for what looks like more than ⅓ of this massive store..."

Lotte's currently only has two Florida locations - one in Orlando and one in Tampa. A Jacksonville location is expected in early 2025.

The Tampa store gets 4.4 out of 5 stars on Google reviews. Many were impressed with the large selection. A reviewer named Aprile wrote:

"Wow. Just wow. Huge, fresh, and anything you could want or need for any Asian cooking. The fresh bakery and food court (were) a huge plus."

The Macy's Sale: In early September of 2024, Macy’s sold its 50,111-square-foot furniture and mattress store in Pembroke Pines located at 13640 Pines Boulevard for $13 million. The buyer was Lotte Miami LLC, the parent company of Lotte Plaza Market. Although this purchase may cause speculation that a Lotte may be on the way to South Florida, there is no "coming soon" for South Florida or Jacksonville listed on the company's website.

The author is not affiliated with Lotte Market or any other grocer.

It doesn't matter what kind of grocery store is opening. It's about quality and low prices. If it doesn't have that, people are going elsewhere.
