Florida Cody's Original Roadhouse Shut Down After State Inspection - 2nd Closure

Floridians who want a steak dinner but who are willing to pay someone else to make it have lots of options. There are Florida-based Outback Steakhouse, Charley's, and Texas Roadhouse, to name a few options. Unfortunately, one chain in this genre - The Village's Cody's Roadhouse - was recently temporarily shut down following an inspection.

About Cody's Original Roadhouse: This company's website indicates that the chain wants patrons to feel as if they're dining in a different time when life was a little simpler and food was straightforward. To that end, the eatery serves comfort foods that are heavy on meat products like steak, ribs, fajitas, and burgers. Its buy one get one free fajita special on Wednesdays can be quite crowded.

Patrons give the location in question at 3731 Meggison Road 4.1 out of 5 stars on Google reviews. Most people were complimentary. A reviewer named Robin wrote:

"Stopped in for a great BOGO Wednesday dinner and it didn’t disappoint! Best of all our waitress Cheyenne was “on point” making sure we had everything we needed. Central Florida is hot in the middle of August but the atmosphere and entertainment were great! Thanks, Cheyenne for your prompt attention!"

What Happened At Inspection?: According to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, an inspection occurred on August 27, 2024. At that time, 8 violations were noted.

Examples of basic violations were an open dumpster lid, an employee water bottle being stored within a cook line cooler, and unwashed fruits and vegetables being stored over ready to eat food.

High-priority violations came when a prep cook handled their cell phone and then handled food without any hand washing, for potato and cheese soup being held at less than 135 degrees, for dozens of live flying insects were observed in various areas of the restaurant, for and a stop-sale order due to broccoli and cheese soup not being kept hot enough.

As a result of some of the above violations, the restaurant was temporarily shut down. At a follow up inspection on August 28th, 0 violations were noted, the facility "met inspection standards" and was free to reopen.

This is not the first closure for this location. It was also closed in February of 2019.

Please note that an inspection is one moment in time and not necessarily how a restaurant conducts itself every day.
