August and September weren't quiet for Florida in terms of layoffs. I've written about iVox Solutions announcing that it will lay off 109 and Winn Dixie laying off dozens. And now another company - Yardnique in Kissimmee - will also be laying off over 100.

About Yardnique: This company was started in 1997 by a college student pursuing a horticultural degree. He provided landscape services to pay for his college and the company Yardnique was born. Today, the company employs over 2,000 and provides services to clients in the southern part of the United States.

Employees give Yardnique 3.5 out of 5 stars on Indeed. Some called it a productive and fun place to learn, but others complained about management.

One client from Tampa gave the company five stars on Google reviews, writing:

"Johannes is the best account manager we’ve dealt with. They do great work and charge fair rates."

About The Layoffs: According to a warn letter dated August 21, 2024, the Yardnique facility located at 650 W. Southport Road, Kissimmee, Florida will close around October 2024. As a result, 106 employees will be laid off.

There were no bumping rights for senior employees and examples of job titles affected were crew leader, irrigation technician, spray technician, and account manager.

According to Lawn & Landscape Magazine's 2024 State of the Landscape Labor Market report, 59% of survey responders said that the labor market is worse than 4 years ago, and over three-fourths had at least one open position.

The author is not affiliated with Yardnique or any other landscape companies.
