Florida Subway That Is Part Of Sunoco Station Shut Down After A State Inspection

Floridians know that restaurant food in the Sunshine State doesn't always come in a stand-alone brick-and-mortar restaurant. Food trucks and eateries inside of stores and gas stations have become common. And a Subway inside of a Naples Sunoco gas station was recently temporarily shut down after a state inspection for a pretty uncommon reason.

Florida Subways In Gas Stations: People visiting Florida from other states or areas may be surprised to find Subways in gas stations in Florida. But they aren't that uncommon. As just a few examples, there's a Subway inside a Mobile in Tampa, in a Rally in Sun City Center, and in a Circle K in Davenport.

The location in question, at 384 Randall Boulevard, is in a Sunoco. It earns 3.9 out of 5 stars on Google reviews. Some criticized the customer service. A reviewer named Tom wrote:

"Ordered online 45 minutes before pickup. (I) got there and there (wasn't) a mobile pickup and nothing was made. Workers were clueless until they found my receipt. (The) toaster has been broken for over a month. Subway should just shut this place down."

What Happened At Inspection?: According to data from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, an inspection occurred on September 4, 2024. At that time, one unusual violation was noted.

The inspector noted that the restaurant had "no dishwashing facilities of any kind provided." It was noted that the Sunoco was having work done on an exterior wall that required the removal of the three-compartment sink temporarily. As a result, the Subway was using a one-compartment prep sink for dishwashing and informed the inspector that employees were rinsing in the same sink and sanitizing with a properly tested sanitizer solution in a tub.

As a result of the above, the Subway was temporarily shut down. At a follow-up inspection on September 5th, no violations were noted, the restaurant "met inspection standards" and was free to reopen.

Please note that an inspection is one moment in time and not necessarily how a restaurant conducts itself every day.
