FL's "Safest" City, The "Heart of the Treasure Coast," Was Also Ranked The Second Safest In The USA

When I write articles about the "best" places to live or retire in Florida, many readers mention safety in the comments. This is understandable. Everyone wants to feel comfortable and secure in their own homes. The national publication WalletHub recently ranked what it felt were the "safest" cities in America. And Florida's top pick - Port St. Lucie - is reportedly marketing itself as "the heart of the Treasure Coast."

About The Study And What It Measured: In October of 2024, the website WalletHub released what it felt were the "safest" cities in the United States. In order to do so, it looked at metrics such as community safety rank, natural disaster risk, and financial safety.

No Florida cities came in the top 30 and South Burlington Vermont, Casper Wyoming, and Warwick, Rhode Island took the top spots.

Florida's "Safest" City Port St. Lucie: Florida's top pick, Port St. Lucie, came in at number 32. It ranked highest in the category of community safety rank.

WalletHub isn't the only publication that found Port St. Lucie to be safe. US News + World Report ranked it the second safest city in the nation in 2022-2023.

"The Heart Of The Treasure Coast:" According to TC Palm, the city, once known as a sleepy town that was popular with retirees, has been trying to market itself as "the heart of the Treasure Coast."

In addition to safety, Port St. Lucie is known for its lovely beaches, golf, and many parks and nature preserves.

One resident had this to say about Port St. Lucie on Niche:

"I have been residing in Port St. Lucie for three years now. It was a big difference for me moving from Miami to Port St Lucie. Miami was more fast- paced compared to Port St Lucie. One of the major things i liked about this city is that it has less crime than many of the surrounding major cities. I have yet to feel unsafe. The people are also friendly. One thing that I would like to see changed is adding more places for teens to hang out as well as places for kids. We don't really have anything that accommodates that locally."

The Least Safe Florida City, Or The Last On The List: The Florida city that was last on WalletHub's list, and therefore would be considered less safe, was Fort Lauderdale at 180.
