Florida's "Great Migration" Is Reportedly Over, As Some Residents Talk About Moving

I'd suspect if you asked a handful of Floridians about their current level of happiness in the Sunshine State, reactions would be mixed. However, one prominent national publication - The Wall Street Journal - is reporting that Florida's "great migration" is over and some residents are speaking out about their considerations about moving.

The Wall Street Journal's Take That The Great Florida Migration Is Over: If you've lived in Florida over the last several years, you know that in recent times, Florida saw large amounts of relocators.

The Wall Street Journal identified several issues that it felt were contributing to the end of this trend, which it calls Florida's "great migration."

Identified issues were a surplus of housing which is contributing to the cooling of the real estate market, soaring insurance costs, and unpredictable weather that may make these insurance issues even worse.

And some Floridians have spoken out about some of these issues.

The Floridians Who Say They Are Considering Moving: Rachel Muse-Connealy moved to Florida four years ago. However, her home was hit by Idalia and then Helene damaged her rental home. As a result, her patience with Florida's unpredictable weather is wearing thin, although she has loved her new community. She told CNN:

“For the first time, we have talked about where we could go next.”

Tina Villanueva rents her home and has had no weather damage. But she too has some frustrations living in Florida and said that she and her husband discuss leaving Florida "almost daily." She explained:

“Everything has gotten more expensive - utilities, car insurance, (and) rent. When housing insurance and taxes go up, of course, we feel it because the owner of our home charges us more."

According to a PODS report, Florida is no longer the top state for move-ins. That honor now belongs to the Carolinas.

Born and raised in South Florida. Would never move but glad some are deciding to move ‘back home’ or not move here! Attitudes from transplants have changed what was a kind and peaceful place to live.
