UPDATE: La Crosse man dies following cantina dock accident in Barron County

A La Crosse man in critical condition following a dock accident in Barron County last week has died.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald confirmed to News 8 Now Tuesday that the 63-year-old La Crosse man involved in the accident passed away.

Fitzgerald did not release the victim's name, however, an obituary for Brian "Unkie" Lueck posted in the La Crosse Tribune indicates he died from, "an accident during a fishing trip with his brothers."

The obituary ends by thanking staff at Lakeside Bar in Chetek as well as staff at Mayo Clinic in Eau Claire.

Lueck passed away on May 13, two days after the accident in Chetek.

CHETEK, Wis. (WKBT) -- A La Crosse man is in critical condition following an incident in Barron County Saturday.

According to a release, reports of two people in the water near the docks of Lakeside Cantina came through at 9:10 p.m.

On arrival, responders say a 58-year-old man from La Crosse was pulled from the water by bystanders. He was treated on scene and released.

A second man -- a 63-year-old also from La Crosse -- was later located and pulled from the water. Lifesaving measures were performed, and he was flown to Mayo hospital in Eau Claire where he remains in critical condition.

Investigators say one of the men was trying to get into a boat from the dock and fell in the water. When he did not surface, the second man jumped in to try and find him. He began to struggle and was helped out of the water by bystanders.

Investigators believe alcohol was a factor in this incident.

Both the Wisconsin DNR and Barron County Sheriff's Office are investigating.
