41st Riverfest Commodore celebrated at annual dinner

LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- In just a few weeks the 41st annual Riverfest will kick off in La Crosse.

On Tuesday, Mike and Laurie Lubinsky were officially welcomed as the 2024 Riverfest Commodore and First Mate at the annual commodore dinner.

Every year, a group of past commodores decide who will be next in line to lead the community in its 4th of July celebration.

Mike is an Onalaska High School graduate and the general manager of Colgan Air Services. Laurie currently works as a dental assistant at Gundersen Dental Specialties in La Crosse.

Mike said he's excited to host the event with his other half.

"Laurie and I both have been involved with many events, this is the first event that we get to do together. Usually growing up with the kids, she went her way, I went my way with my son. And now we get to do an event together means the world to us, means the world to me," said Mike Lubinsky.

If the couple wasn't local enough for you, they even got married on the La Crosse Queen.

The 41st annual Riverfest will be held July 3-6 at La Crosse's Riverside Park.
