    Ride-Along with the Blue Angels

    LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- The Blue Angels were back in La Crosse Tuesday prepping for the Deke Slayton AirFest.

    An airshow like no other, showcasing the elite talent, professionalism and influence of naval aviation.

    News 8 Now's Emily Brown was the given the chance to take flight in a Blue Angel F/A 18 jet that can travel as fast as 1,190 mph.

    "You go on brain stem power, it still requires total focus, but they've just practiced it so much. It's just muscle memory," says Lt. Connor O'Donnell, pilot and first-year narrator with the Blue Angels.

    Flown by pilots who exercise only the highest degree of agility and precision.

    When given this rare opportunity, it takes preparation.

    Brown and Jake Erickson, CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of La Crosse, went through a training with a Blue Angels instructor before takeoff, learning how to maintain consciousness during G-force speeds.

    The 45-minute flight consisted of aerobatic and combat maneuvers, going as fast as G-force 7. Lieutenant O'Donnell cued Brown is to tighten her muscles and take sharp quick breaths when hitting such speeds.

    Some peaceful moments came with the ride, including breathtaking views of La Crosse's majestic landscape.

    The flight ended with an overwhelming amount of gratitude from Brown.

    Airfest takes place on June 15th and 16th at the La Crosse Regional Airport. Tickets are still available for this weekend's event.
