    Gundersen Health System hosts rural disaster scenarios with local fire departments and students

    LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- Gundersen Health system hosted a series of rural disaster scenarios on Saturday morning, bringing together eight local rural fire departments and 28 students from the Wisconsin Academy for Rural Medicine.

    Some of the scenarios included an ATV rollover, a motor vehicle accident, and even a baby being delivered in a van.

    One member from Gundersen Health System emphasized the importance of being prepared and ready for situations like these.

    "It's really important to be able to practice some skills over and over that you may need a couple times a year, so you don't get them every single day. But you have to get them so when you get those critical skills, their ready to go," said Kimberly Lansing, MD, at Gundersen Health System.

    EMT students from Western Technical College, along with paramedics from Tri-State and Gundersen Air, also participated in the event.
