Eagles ranked sixth in D3 preseason poll

After an 11-2 record a year ago, the Eagles will look to build upon their success in 2024.

D3football.com released their annual Top 25 preseason poll submitted by coaches and media across the country and UW-La Crosse was tabbed as the sixth-best team entering the season.

Matt Janus has had quite the start to his tenure with UWL going 29-7 in his four seasons up to this point including being named the 2022 and 2023 WIAC Kwik Trip George Chryst Coach of the Year.

Last season the Eagles celebrated their first outright conference title in 19 years with a 7-0 record against WIAC opponents.

There will be no shortage of experience coming back with some of the biggest names being senior linebacker Tanner Newlin, senior wide receiver Jack Studer and kicker Michael Stack. Those three will look to build upon seasons that saw them receive All-WIAC First Team from 2023.

UW-La Crosse opens up their season on the road at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (NY) on September 5 at 4 p.m. and the home opener will be September 14 at 1 p.m. at Roger Harring Stadium against Northern Michigan University.
