Couleecap assists La Crosse homeless population with resource events

LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- Couleecap hosted two events to help La Crosse's homeless population on Thursday.

The morning started with the July Point-In-Time Count, a biannual process to determine how many people are expecting homelessness in the La Crosse area.

The count also aims to gather information about the needs of unsheltered people.

After the count, Couleecap hosted Homeless Connect, which sets homeless individuals up with community resources like foot care, haircuts, and help filling out paperwork.

Couleecap's Housing and Community Services Director said everyone goes through different challenges in life, and it's important to offer support without judgments.

"I think it's important to give back to your community to be involved with your community and to recognize there are different challenges that people are facing. Your neighbors have different experiences and that, and whatever we can do to provide to someone, whether that's a listening ear or resource that maybe we can share with them," said Becky Koske, Couleecap's Housing & Community Services D irector.
