Sen. Tammy Baldwin introduces Hospital Stability and Health Services Act

La Crosse (WKBT) -- Senator Tammy Baldwin introduced new legislation designed to protect communities from sudden hospital closures on Thursday.

The Hospital Stability and Health Services Act will require hospital services to give 90 days' notice to the U.S. Department of Human Services before closing. This comes after Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) abruptly closed two hospitals and Prevea closed nineteen clinics in the Chippewa Valley in March. Baldwin hopes the bill ensures communities won’t be left without the medical care they need. Gov. Tony Evers has also come out in support of Baldwin's plan, saying it will go a long way in making sure people have access to proper care
