La Crosse school goes green with new solar array installation

LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- A La Crosse school is going green with a new source of energy.

On Friday, 'Solar on La Crosse Schools' hosted an event showcasing their newest solar array at La Crosse's Polytechnic School, marking the third to be installed at a school in the district.

Money for the project was raised through community donations and grants.

The volunteer director said solar panels are a good way to reduce the harmful effects on our planet.

"One of the steps we can take to reduce our climate emissions, our greenhouse gas emissions, as well as a particular matter that makes for dirty air from burning fossil fuels, so the schools can be a part of the solution," said Alysa Remsburg, volunteer director of Solar on La Crosse Schools.

The solar panels, in addition to their environmental benefits, are also estimated to save the district over $70,000 in energy costs over a 30-year period.

Next, the group hopes to install solar panels at Summit Environmental School.
