    Early and absentee voting for Wisconsin's state primary opens up

    Wisconsin In-Person Absentee Voting Begins Today

    LA CROSSE, Wis. (WKBT) -- In just a matter of weeks, Wisconsin voters will be heading to the polls to cast their ballot in the August 13 primary.

    With just two weeks before election day, many towns and municipalities in the Coulee Region and Chippewa Valley are opening up their early and absentee voting locations Tuesday.

    In La Crosse, only a handful of sites will be open for the first day of voting, including:

    • La Crosse City Hall, 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.
    • Hmoob Cultural and Community Agency, 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.
    • Northside Policing Center, by appointment only

    If you do plan on voting early at one of the many polling places near you, you will need to provide a form of photo ID.

    According to My Vote Wisconsin, some forms of Photo ID accepted include:

    • Wisconsin DOT issued driver's license, it does not need to be REAL-ID compliant
    • Wisconsin DOT issued identification card
    • Military ID
    • U.S. Passport
    • ID issued by federally recognized Indian Tribe in Wisconsin

    If you have not yet registered to vote or need to update your voter registration, you will also need to bring in a proof of residence.

    According to My Vote Wisconsin, proof of residence can include things like:

    • Real estate tax bill from either 2023 or 2024
    • Bank or credit card statement
    • Paycheck or paystub
    • Residential Lease still effective on the date you register to vote
    • Utility (gas, electric, telephone) statement dated no earlier than 90 days before election day
