BAKER/MALHUER COUNTIES – ODOT reports that I-84 is closed to all traffic between Baker City (Exit 302) and Ontario (Exit 374) due to a wildfire south of Durkee, near milepost 330. CASCADE LOCKS, Ore. (KATU) — Officials say the Whisky Creek Fire burning in the Mt. Hood National Forest, near the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, remains at 10.5 acres Sunday afternoon. Federal officials allow Oregon to offer Medicaid services to those behind bars
Federal officials have approved Oregon’s request to offer free Medicaid services for addiction and some other services to people who are on the verge of being released from jail or prison, something that’s prohibited by federal law. Conservation groups intend to sue the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for federal protection of a small mammal that lives in tree tops and is considered by conservationists to be a harbinger of forest health. According to the National Weather Service, "Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Quality Advisory IN EFFECT UNTIL midnight TONIGHT. A Smoke Air Quality Advisory has been issued. Wildfires burning in the region combined with forecasted conditions will cause air quality to reach unhealthy levels. City of La Grande Fire Department Bans Fireworks and Outdoor Recreational Fires
LA GRANDE – (Release from La Grande Fire) The City of La Grande Fire Department has implemented a temporary ban on the use of all fireworks, outdoor burning to include recreational fires, cooking fires and charcoal fires, beginning immediately. This is due to the unusually high temperatures and dry conditions the area is experiencing.
