Riyan Rodriguez was sitting in the home dugout at the Valencia High School baseball field when he was approached by an aspiring youth player. In the middle of reminiscing about his journey after graduating from Valencia in 2016, Rodriguez stopped to sign a yellow baseball for 10-year-old Liam Montiel, something Rodriguez never thought would happen following a high school pitching career that saw him toss just 10 innings over one varsity season.
Long unfinished East LA mural honoring veterans is completed and celebrated
The East Los Angeles community celebrated the unveiling of a mural honoring veterans at Ruben F. Salazar Park that had been unfinished for nearly 15 years. Seniors who frequented the community room at the park raised funds from 2006 to 2009 for a mural honoring local military service men and women. They collected photographs from the community of veterans and their families and with funds raised, hired artist Richard Haro to create the "Among the Valiant" mural. Long Beach Man Arrested on Multiple Murder Charges in Connection to Recent Killings
A grim update has shaken the community of Long Beach as homicide detectives have made an arrest in connection with the July 18, 2024, murder of Jaiquan Granberry, a 19-year-old local resident. Long Beach Police Department identified the suspect as Mathew De Diego, also 19, pinpointing him as the perpetrator not only of Granberry's death but of a second killing on Lime Avenue.
