USA Today released its annual Big Ten preseason media poll this week, the Trojans picked to finish No. 5 in the conference. This is the second unofficial Big Ten preseason poll of the summer, joining a poll by Kings of the North, a poll previously done by Cleveland.com, where USC was picked to finish sixth.

Top WPIAL Recruit Earns Offer from West Coast Powerhouse
Matt Sieg is one of the top recruits in the WPIAL, regardless of class, and he’s continuing to rack up major offers. Sieg — a 6-foot, 170-pound four-star athlete from Fort Cherry in McDonald, Pa. — holds offers from Akron, Minnesota, Nebraska, Penn State, Pitt, Syracuse, WVU and Wisconsin, and he’s playing quarterback and defensive back at the high school level. It appears likely that Sieg will be recruited primarily as a safety, but wherever he ends up on the field, he’ll be one of the highest-recruited WPIAL players in the class of 2026.

Man Wounded in Shooting in Downtown Los Angeles
A 29-year-old man was shot in the stomach in downtown Los Angeles and police Saturday are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Division responded to a shots fired call around 11 p.m. Friday near the intersection of Seventh Street and Stanford Avenue. When they arrived, officers learned an unknown assailant had approached the victim and shot him, an LAPD spokeswoman told City News Service.
