    UPDATE: Motorcyclist found dead after crash was from La Junta

    UPDATE: TUESDAY 7/16/2024 1:15 p.m.

    (BENT COUNTY, Colo.) — The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) provided an update on the motorcycle rider, who was found dead after a crash in Bent County on Sunday, July 14, and said that the victim, whose name has not yet been released, was a 57-year-old man from La Junta.

    According to CSP, troopers determined that the man, who was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on Highway 50, near milepost 400 on Sunday at around 4 p.m., failed to negotiate a left-hand curve in the road and crashed.

    “The details leading to the cause of the crash are still being investigated,” wrote CSP, who said the man was pronounced dead on the scene.

    The victim’s name will be released by the Bent County Coroner’s Office at a later time.

    A motorcycle rider was found dead on the scene of a crash in Bent County on Sunday, July 14.

    According to the Bent County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a report of a motorcycle crash on westbound Highway 50 Sunday, just outside the city limits of Las Animas. First responders with the Las Animas Fire Department and the Bent County Ambulance Service also responded to assist.

    When deputies arrived, they found the motorcyclist who was pronounced dead on the scene.

    The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and the Bent County Coroner were notified of the crash, and the westbound lanes of Highway 50 were shut down while CSP’s Vehicular Crimes Unit investigated and reconstructed the crash scene.

    “The Bent County Sheriff’s Office extends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the involved rider,” a Facebook post read .

    The motorcyclist’s identity is not being released at this time.
