LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. — A Northwest Indiana mother was charged with neglect after her toddler overdosed on meth Tuesday, according to court documents.

Just after 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, LaPorte police responded to the 300 block of Oberriech Street on the report of an overdose.

Officers at the scene were told the 18-month-old child of Lily Allen was potentially overdosing on methamphetamine.

The child was transported to Northwest Health by authorities. At the hospital, the child had body tremors, irregular breathing and was vomiting prior to the arrival.

Allen was transported to the LaPorte Police Department for questioning.

She stated she would need to speak with her lawyer and officers arrested her — citing enough probable cause for neglect of a dependent, court documents state.

The child was placed into the care of the Department of Child Services after they were discharged for the overdose.

Allen’s initial hearing is scheduled for Friday.
