Offense Kept Silent On Thursday Night As Patriots Fall to SeaWolves
The Somerset Patriots were blanked by the Erie SeaWolves 6-0 on Thursday night in game three of a six-game series at UPMC Park in Erie, PA. The Patriots were shut out for the fourth time this season and first time since 5/23 @NH. Somerset’s two hits match their fewest in a game this season.
Bedford Legion take Game One in playoffs
The Bedford American Legion Post 113 baseball team wanted to get off to a strong start in the CCAL playoffs. On Thursday in Game One of the best-of-3-games semifinal series against fourth-seeded Hollidaysburg 2, the Hurricanes did just that with a strong all-around performance in a 6-3 victory.
Pair face charges in alleged indecent assault
Two individuals are facing charges stemming from an alleged indecent assault of a 10-year-old girl. Gabriel Lucas Martin, 18, and Kevin Riley Barton, 27, both of Bedford, were both implicated in the alleged incident that occurred behind the Bedford Elementary School on May 30.
Napoleonic weekend returns to Village
The Napoleonic Grand Tactique is back at Old Bedford Village with new and returning activities focusing on the Napoleonic era in America. “It was a transitional period in American history and the war did affect us here,” said David Petit of Old Bedford Village.The event will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, starting with optional military unit drills at 9:30.

Moonlight walks continue. Shawnee State Park’s moonlight walks return July 19. The moonlight walk around Shawnee Lake will begin at 9 p.m. at the beach entrance of the No. 2 parking lot. Dogs will be permitted. Bring flashlights. On July 21, the park will present “Old Time Thingumajigs” at 7 p.m. in the Historic & Interpretive Center at the main office. During the program, attendees will return to the world of yesteryear by using and making devices like whirligigs, thaumatropes, whimmydiddles and Jacob’s rung. Press Release: Maryland State Police McHenry Barrack
ON 7/9/24 at approximately 1651 hours Troopers from the Maryland State Police McHenry Barrack responded to New Germany Road, south of Twin Churches Road, Grantsville, Garrett County, Maryland, for a motor vehicle collision. Upon arrival Troopers discovered a Toyota Tacoma pickup off of the northbound side of the roadway, into a wooded area. Also at the scene was a Freightliner utility truck parked in a gravel area, off the travel portion of the roadway. The driver of the Toyota truck, James Thomas Shillingburg III of Ridgely, WV was entrapped and subsequently pronounced deceased by paramedics of the Northern Garrett Rescue Squad. The driver of the Freightliner, Charles Meyers, of Sharpsburg, MD was not injured. The preliminary investigation revealed that the Toyota truck being operated by Shillingburg was traveling southbound on New Germany Road and the Freightliner truck being operated by Meyers, was traveling northbound. The Toyota truck failed to navigate a righthand turn in the roadway and crossed the center yellow lines and struck the Freightliner truck. The Toyota then continued across the northbound lane and left the roadway and traveled down an embankment into a wooded area. The collision is still under investigation by Troopers from the Maryland State Police McHenry Barrack.
Man from West Virginia died in collision in western Maryland
GRANTSVILLE, Md. (WVPREPBB) – A tragic accident in Garrett County, Maryland, resulted in the death of a West Virginia man on Tuesday. According to the Maryland State Police, troopers from the McHenry Barrack responded to a vehicle collision on New Germany Road in Grantsville at approximately 4:51 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered a Toyota Tacoma that had veered off the road into a wooded area and a Freightliner utility truck parked roadside.
