La Feria ISD Kicks Off a New School Year in Style
On Monday, August 5th, La Feria ISD held its annual Convocation to welcome all employees to the new school year. The theme for this year was Cinema, and each school was supposed to dress as their favorite movie. The district would like to once again express its heartfelt gratitude to the school’s CTE Department for proudly hosting this year’s red carpet event. The celebration featured various movie-themed costumes, and the district extends its sincere thanks to the CTE department, its director, Mrs. Zuvieta, and everyone involved for making this year’s Convocation a resounding success and an enjoyable event for all.

La Feria Police Department Holds National Night Out
On the evening of Monday, August 5th, the 2024 National Night Out was a resounding success thanks to the fantastic hosting by the La Feria Police Department. The event took place at the picturesque Veteran’s Memorial Park/Sport Complex on Pancho Maples Drive in La Feria. The festivities included a wide array of offerings for students preparing to return to school, with the participation of numerous law enforcement agencies. The La Feria Police Department distributed numerous exciting giveaways, while various vendors generously provided school supplies, backpacks, and valuable resources for the community. Children were treated to an abundance of fun and games, and the highlight for many was the delightful train ride around the venue.

Lady Tarpons fall to San Perlita Lady Trojans

Lady Eagles fall in five sets to Alice
A comeback bid by the Woodsboro Lady Eagles fell short in a five-set loss to the Alice Lady Coyotes on Aug. 13 at the Eagle Dome. I have heard a lot of people in Wichita Falls complain about the horrible drivers whenever they have to go to Dallas. It is true, Dallas has significantly worse traffic than us here in Wichita Falls. Worse drivers? I don't think so. People in Wichita Falls don't know basic driving etiquette and I am shocked that some of you are legally allowed to have a license. Looks like the latest reporter from Consumer Affairs agrees with me.

Volunteers learn to fingerprint, ID deceased migrants
Volunteers with the Eagle Pass Border Vigil Coalition this week have been learning how to take forensic fingerprints to help identify migrants who died trying to cross the border into South Texas. They are part of a group of forensic specialists who have been in Eagle Pass this week helping to reduce the overflow of bodies at the Maverick County Sheriff Department's mobile morgue.
