According to NYSP, on Sunday, July 7, around 12:40 p.m., troopers responded to the area of 2362 State Route 97 in Pond Eddy—east of Lackawaxen along the state borders—for a reported drowning in the Delaware River.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture kicks off its 2024 Summer Food Service Program this month to provide free meals to area kids at three Port Jervis locations. According to the USDA, the program was established to ensure that low-income children 18 and younger receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. The USDA Food and Nutrition Service administers the Summer Food Service Program at the national level and the New York State Education Department (NYSED) administers it at the state level. Locally, it is operated by sponsors who apply for and are approved to operate the program.
