Community events are planned in Hawley, including free evening movies in Bingham Park
Movies in Bingham Park, National Night Out and a community-wide yard sale are three of the special events this summer for everyone to enjoy in Hawley Borough. Scott Mead, the borough's public works supervisor as well as the Hawley fire chief, is coordinating the second season for Movies in the Park. He said at the July 10 council meeting that they are held on the last Saturday of the month, beginning at dusk. The first one was held July 5 (rescheduled from June 29). The series runs through December, when they are planning two movies around the time of Hawley Winterfest.

Former Phillies in area to help raise money for Darren Daulton Foundation
The Darren Daulton Foundation held its Mid-Summer Golf Classic on Monday at Elkview Country Club in Greenfield Township. The Foundation is named in honor of the former Philadelphia Phillies catcher who died at age 55 after a battle with glioblastoma, the most aggressive form of brain cancer, on Aug. 6, 2017. Before his death, Daulton established The Darren Daulton Foundation, which raises awareness and provides grants to help pay medical and personal expenses for brain cancer patients who cannot afford to pay their own expenses. Among the attendees at Monday's event were: former Philadelphia Phillies General Manager Ed Wade, a Carbondale native; former player, manager and current senior advisor Larry Bowa; former Phillies players John Kruk, Ruben Amaro Jr., Kevin Stocker, Ricky Bottalico, Tommy Greene, Jim Eisenreich, Steve Jeltz, Wes Chamberlain and Gregg Legg.

Michael Elliot Weinstein, 81
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Elliot Weinstein, 81, on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, New York. An alum of Richmond Hill High School in Queens, Long Island University Brooklyn, and Brooklyn Law School, Michael was a proud marine, crediting his time in the service for being the inspiration he needed to be prepared for life. He was a two-term district attorney of Pike County, and was a lifelong active Democrat. He was a volunteer EMT with the Milford Fire Department (and a trained medic) for decades. He practiced law for 51 years, and was a brilliant and successful trial lawyer. He was an avid fisherman and sailor, and a licensed captain.

Maureen P. O’Sullivan, 89, of Milford, Pa., peacefully passed away at her home on Sunday, July 7, 2024. Maureen was a devoted educator, which she proudly achieved through her many years of study and service. She enjoyed teaching and investing in the youth, which she referred to as “our future.” Maureen graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Marymount College and earned her Doctor of Philosophy degree from St. John’s University. She worked as a professor of chemistry at St. John’s University and College of Staten Island.
