SPARROWBUSH – Hundreds of outdoor enthusiasts have been taking to the waterways of the tri-state community during recent warm weather days and weeks. Rafts, kayaks, tubes, and other floats are used routinely, year-after-year, in recreational travels down the Delaware and Neversink Rivers. Officials encourage this summer fun but warn all to wear life jackets and be aware and cautious of hidden dangers.

District Attorney Hoovler Announces Guilty Pleas in Wallkill Narcotics Case
Middletown Man and Montague, New Jersey Man Pled Guilty to Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree. Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced that Ronald Lempka, 23, of Middletown, and Keanu Alicea, 29, of Montague, New Jersey pled guilty in Orange County Court to Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree. Under the plea agreements announced on the record at the time that defendants pled guilty, the People will recommend sentences of nine (9) years in prison to be followed by five (5) years of post-release supervision when they are scheduled to be sentenced on September 18, 2024. The Court agreed to cap the defendants’ sentences at seven (7) years in prison. It is expected that the defendants will also forfeit proceeds or instrumentalities of their crimes as part of the disposition.

Driver in Route 33 crash that killed 3 was impaired by marijuana, police say
Pennsylvania State Police charged a New Jersey man with homicide by vehicle and related counts in a March 2022 crash on Route 33 that killed three members of a family. Nelson Segura, 34, of Oak Ridge, had metabolites of marijuana use in his blood and was determined by a state police Drug Recognition Expert to be impaired by the drug immediately following the collision, according to court records.

Brandon Gonzalez born March 9, 2001 in Port Jervis NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Brandon is a 2020 Valley Central high school graduate. Brandon spent most of his teen years in foster care and making his own family. Before foster care he lived with his grandparents with his half siblings Cherise and Paul. They were all separated after his grandfather Louis Hull passed away in 2011. He saw his grandfather as his father figure as he raised him until the age of 11. Brandon found love and support in those he called family. Brandon was a jokester, who loved making all those around him laugh. His free time was spent enjoying computer and video games with his friends and family. Brandon thanks his foster parents for their time and support throughout the years. Sandy and James Kimble were a family from the foster care system that really helped Brandon. They got him and Paul living together and helped them form a bond that they couldn’t as kids.
