Treatable Liver Condition May Be Misdiagnosed As Dementia
Symptoms that are sometimes diagnosed as part of dementia might actually be related to a treatable liver condition, according to a recent study. Up to 13% of patients believed to have dementia are likely to have advanced liver disease instead, according to researchers at the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System (VCU Health) and the Richmond VA Medical Center.
Richmond: Contractors, manager named in new baseball stadium project
The new $110 million home of the Richmond Flying Squirrels and VCU Baseball is a big step closer to coming to fruition. The city has selected Providence, R.I.,-based Gilbane Building Co. and North Chesterfield-based Prestige Construction Group to lead the construction of the new 10,000-seat stadium, which is slated to open in 2026.

Scheduled to return on September 7, Richmond’s Soul Vegan Block Party will warmly welcome all types of foodies for a celebration of plant-based dining. The free vegan food fest aims to challenge the stigma “that there’s no SOUL in plant-based eating.” Its website states that its goal is to make living “a healthy and ethically conscious plant-based lifestyle” more widespread. The block party will have tons of vegan delights to try, live music, cooking demonstrations, and guest speakers.

Crozet’s Christian thrift store, which opened the door at its original location back in 1979, faced demolition when the property on which it sat was sold for development. But Music Today, located just across the street, made an offer they couldn’t refuse, and a deal was made.
Cowan Boulevard Sewer Main Repairs Continue
Partial Intermittent Closure of Cowan Boulevard Expected This Fall. On the evening of December 31st, 2023, the City’s Department of Public Works was notified of a sanitary sewer manhole that was discharging behind the shopping center located on the north side of Cowan Boulevard across from the Belmont subdivision. The Department established an emergency pump-around across Cowan Boulevard and through the Belmont Apartment complex to facilitate the emergency repairs. There was a similar failure earlier in December that required a temporary bypass pass be put into operation. The emergency repairs were divided into two phases. The now completed Phase 1 repairs involved replacement or rehabilitation of 5 manholes and installation of approximately 625 feet of new sewer main in the lower portion. Work is now in Phase 2 which involves installation of 1,008 feet of new sewer main (a portion of which crosses under Cowan Boulevard), two new manholes, and rehabilitation of two existing manholes.

The peer-review process for M.D. programs examines more than 100 elements of a medical school, and years of preparation are required. The Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine M.D. program has again received full accreditation from the Liaison Committee for Medical Education, the accrediting body for all medical education programs resulting in an M.D. degree in the U.S.

Galarza, who is in his third year of the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program at Virginia Commonwealth University, returned to adolescence for “The Great Cool Ranch Dorito in the Sky.” Imbued with elements of Galarza’s identity and life story, the young adult title marks the author’s evolution in life and writing.
