Patriot graduate Kevin Warunek was selected in the 18th round Tuesday by the Philadelphia Phillies. A junior, Warunek pitched for Longwood University the past three seasons. The man convicted of killing a Temple University student during a robbery back in 2021 will spend decades behind bars.Latif Williams, 19, was convicted of third-degree murder back in February in the death of 21-year-old Samuel Collington of Prospect Park, Pa.He was sentenced on Tuesday to 25 - 50 years in prison.Police say Collington was shot and killed while returning to the North Philadelphia campus after spending Thanksgiving break with his family.He was set to graduate the following spring.Authorities said he was unloading his SUV near the 2200 block of N. Park Avenue when Williams snuck up on him and a struggle ensued.Collington was shot in the chest and back. He was taken to Temple University Hospital where he died of his injuries.

Herzog and DBK Start Preconstruction on Amtrak’s New Penn Coach Yard Maintenance Facility
PHILADELPHIA – Herzog Contracting Corporation and Dana B. Kenyon Company (DBK) have begun preconstruction on Amtrak’s Penn Coach Yard Heavy Maintenance Facility. In March, RT&S reported that Herzog Contracting Corporation was awarded a contract to design and construct a new Heavy Maintenance Facility in Philadelphia. This contract is for the first of six major maintenance facilities that will help to “modernize maintenance practices and ensure a successful transition from an aging fleet to modern, state-of-the-art trains.” The facility is located near Amtrak’s 30th Street Train Station in Philadelphia. This new facility will service Amtrak’s Acela, Airo, and Northeast Regional Trains that operate on the NEC.

Eligible municipalities and community-based organizations participated in a competitive grant process that made up to $2 million available per municipality. The Center for Family Services in Camden, the Newark Community Street Team, the Reimagining Justice Inc./Paterson Healing Collective’s Paterson Compassionate Care Collaborative Project, and Salvation and Social Justice in Trenton were selected to receive funds and establish CCRT pilots in their respective cities.
