    By the numbers: A look back on Lafayette area high school sports in 2023-24

    LAFAYETTE — Photo finishes, game winners, pins and touchdowns were all part of another memorable chapter in the history of high school sports across the Greater Lafayette Area.

    But what about the science and metrics behind some of the notable achievements that occurred during the 2023-24 athletics year?

    It's time to take one final look down memory lane and list by the numbers, the team and individual achievements made by athletes in the Lafayette area.

    The number of matches lost by 190-pound state wrestling champion Noah Weaver this season.

    The eyelash differential separating Lafayette Jeff senior Maria De La Cruz and Harrison senior Park Peterson. De La Cruz would keep her stride and take first place in 16.12 seconds, just .01 ahead of Peterson who finished in 16.13 seconds and captured the IHSAA girls sectional 100-meter title.

    The collective batting average of Rossville's IHSAA Class 1A State Championship 13-player roster in 2024.

    The seconds trimmed quartet of Cornell bound runner Henny Schminke, Charlotte Simpson, Molly Andrew and Joselyn Jundos to break its 2023 IHSAA Sectional Championship record in the 4x400 meters. West Lafayette has also won the event in three consecutive seasons.

    Harrison girls tennis celebrated its first IHSAA Regional Championship and Semi-State Championships in 2024 led by Navy-bound captain Hannah Gu.
