Two area hospitals received high honors for their efforts to adhere to American Heart Association guidelines in 2023.

Franciscan Health Lafayette East was given the top honor in the American Heart Association’s “Get with the Guidelines” heart failure prevention program, and Indiana University Health Arnett, in also in Lafayette, received Gold Plus for the Stroke Award.

The awards recognize the hospitals’ commitment to improving outcomes for patients with heart failure, meaning reduced readmissions and more healthy days at home.

Heart disease and stroke are the leading causes of death in the United States, ranked No. 1 and No. 5, according to the American Heart Association. Prompt and effective treatment is crucial for ensuring the best outcomes for patients, the association said.

The two hospitals achieved awards in other categories, too. Franciscan received Silver Plus for stroke and Target Heart Failure and Target Type 2 Diabetes Honor Rolls, as well as Target Stroke Elite Honor Roll.

Indiana University Health Arnett earned Gold Plus for the Stroke Award and Target Stroke Honor Roll. These hospitals are part of the over 3,000 nationwide list of hospitals participating in the American Heart Association’s “Get With The Guidelines” program, which aim at improving outcomes for heart disease and stroke patients.
