LAFAYETTE, La. ( KLFY ) – Governor Jeff Landry held a major press conference in Lafayette on his package of education bills.

The signing took place before a crowd of educators and legislators with students in the background. The governor stated he fulfilled his promise to bring what he called drastic reform to the state’s education system.

The package of bills includes the mandate to display The Ten Commandments . “In every classroom in public, elementary, secondary and post education Schools in the State of Louisiana,” Governor Landry explained.

The governor signed the house bill that mandates public schools not adopt policies requiring the use of names and pronouns inconsistent with a student’s God given sex as listed on their original birth certificate. “I think the bishop would appreciate this as well. God gives us, you know, our mark and we get to keep it all the way until we hopefully make it out. Right?” the Governor said.

Governor Landry also signed the Education Scholarship Accounts (ESA) which supports the Louisiana Gator Scholarship Program.

The program provides for the use of tax dollars to help pay for a student to attend a school of choice outside of public school, that includes private school.

“Louisiana spends more per student than Mississippi, Florida and Texas, and even more than Alabama. But yet our kids are not getting the quality of education that they deserve and those states are doing a better job.”

The governor also signed HB334 to allow school boards to accept volunteer chaplains into schools.
