UPDATE: Police have released more information on a Monday morning crash that shut down I-10 eastbound.
Investigators on the scene determined that a total of three vehicles and one motorcycle were involved in this morning's crash on I-10 East at University Ave. Preliminary investigation revealed that for unknown reasons the motorcyclist lost control of his motorcycle (Vehicle 1) and crashed, according to a spokesperson for the Lafayette Police Department. Due to the motorcyclist crashing, traffic began to stop on the interstate, causing a second crash.
Vehicle 2, which was traveling in the inside lane, struck the rear right side of Vehicle 3 and then struck the rear of Vehicle 4, which was stopped in the outside lane, the spokesperson stated.
The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and the driver of Vehicle 4 was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. Impairment is not believed to be a factor in this crash. This crash in under investigation by the Lafayette Police Department’s Traffic Unit.

Lafayette Police are investigating a major vehicle crash on the I-10 (mile marker 102) overpass eastbound.
One person is critically injured as a result of the crash.
Investigators with the Lafayette Police Traffic Unit are on the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
I-10 eastbound is shut down, and all traffic is diverted to an alternate route.
