The Jesus Worship Center of Lafayette was started in November of 2015, and for the past nine years, the church has grown in more ways than one.

The church, at 208 Cadillac St. in Lafayette, is a full-gospel, non-denominational church, where they focus a great deal on the community and its people.

“We teach the full counsel of God,” according to pastor Joey Dugas, and owner of the Jesus Worship Center. “We teach everything from Genesis to Revelation. We teach that we are saved by grace through faith.”

At the Jesus Worship Center, its members worship the Lord and put Him first. He is the center of their life and everything they do, Joey said.

Though the Jesus Worship Center desires that many will come, they more so desire that those who attend would be grounded and settled in their faith, growing spiritually, moving on to maturity in Christ Jesus.

The Jesus Worship Center was started by Joey and his wife, Lacy Dugas, after a word from the Lord. Joey previously served as an associate pastor at another church. As that church was closing down, he was given guidance by God to start his own.

“On November 11 (2015), I got a word from the Lord to start a church in Lafayette, and that’s exactly what we did,” Joey said. “We started with Bible study and had a couple of people who were part of the church at the start.”

The Jesus Worship Center started to grow, Joey said. As time went on, a few turned to many. Eventually, the church moved to its present location.

The church currently has on average 60 members, and Joey said they have outgrown their current location.

“We have outgrown it a bit,” Joey said. “What we did was, we bought property outside of Lafayette in Scott, and we are going to be building a new church.”

The new location will be 1238 Renaud Drive in Scott, he said.

As they approach their 10-year anniversary, Joey said doing the work of the Lord is their utmost priority at Jesus Worship Center.

“It’s in our heart to be obedient to Christ,” Joey said. “It means a great deal to be a faithful servant to Jesus Christ, and doing what He has commanded us to do… that is our life.”
