    Lafayette Mayor-President, law enforcement agencies send prayers, condolences after standoff

    ( KLFY )– Mayor-President Monique B. Boulet and law enforcement agencies around Louisiana are sending prayers and condolences to the Lafayette Police Department after one officer died and three others were injured in an armed hostage standoff in Jeanerette .

    “I am deeply saddened to share the news of the recent loss of one of our cherished community members and a devoted officer of the Lafayette Police Department,” Boulet shared. “This rare and tragic event brings us great sadness and grief. Our hearts go out to the officer’s family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.”

    “To honor their courage and dedication, I ask that you join me in prayer and support for all those affected by this heartbreaking loss,” she added.

    The Jeanerette Marshal’s Office and other law enforcement agencies, including LPD, responded to the hostage situation that resulted in an officer-involved shooting.

    “The Lafayette Police Department is mourning the loss of one of our own. Please keep these officers and their families in your prayers during this tragic time,” LPD said.

    After the suspect, 31-year-old Nyjal Hurst, barricaded himself and two others, he later fired multiple shots at officers, according to LPD, resulting in one being killed and three others being hospitalized.

    The Office of the Louisiana Attorney General posted : “I’m praying for the Lafayette Police Department tonight, after one officer was tragically killed and three others were injured in a hostage standoff in Jeanerette. Just devastating and heartbreaking news.”

    The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office posted : “The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office sends our prayers and condolences to our brothers and sisters at the Lafayette Police Department as they mourn the loss of one of their own. We also support and wish a speedy recovery to the other officers who were injured in the line of duty.

    The Jeanerette Police Department shared : “We send our prayers out to the Lafayette Police Department along with the Officers Families. We ask the community as a whole to keep them in prayer.”

    The St. Martinville Police Department shared on their Facebook page : “Our prayers go out to Lafayette Police Department. Please pray for the injured and a fallen officer! Rest Easy Brother! Days like today remind us how important and delecate life is, yet we still put on our uniform and badge and go out there every day to protect our citizens!”

    “Chief Gibson along with the entire Baldwin Police Department and Community sends our prayers to Lafayette Police Department and Officers Families,” the Baldwin Police Department posted .

    The Youngsville Police Department shared : “Our thoughts and prayers are with our brothers and sisters at the Lafayette Police Department tonight.”

    “The men and women of the Scott Police Department wish to convey their condolences to the Lafayette Police Department on the tragic, in the line of duty death of one of their SWAT team members. Prayers are also going out to the other officers who suffered injuries in this terrible incident,” The Scott Police Department posted .

    The Broussard Police Department posted : “Thoughts and prayers go out to all of our Lafayette Police Department brothers and sisters tonight.”

    “Our prayers are with Lafayette Police Department and the fallen officers family,” The Basile Police Department posted .

    The Baton Rouge Police Department posted : “One Lafayette police officer was killed and three injured during a hostage situation that occurred in Jeanerette, Louisiana. We are keeping the families, as well as the men and women of the Lafayette Police Department and other agencies involved, in our prayers during this difficult time.”

    “Please join us in prayer for peace for the family (personnel and professional ) of the Lafayette Police SWAT officer killed today in Jenerette. 3 other LPD SWAT officers were also injured. We pray for the speedy recovery of those officers,” The Port Allen Police Department shared on their Facebook page .

    The Alexandria Police Department posted : “One Lafayette police officer was killed and three were injured today while performing their duties during a call. We extend our prayers to the men and women of the Lafayette Police Department, other involved agencies and the families of these brave officers.”

    The Town of Woodworth posted : “We invite everyone to join us in prayer for peace and support for the family—both personal and professional—of the Lafayette Police SWAT officer who was tragically killed today in Jenerette. Additionally, we pray for the swift recovery of the three other LPD SWAT officers who were injured. Our thoughts are with their families and the community during this difficult time.

    The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, New Iberia Police Department SWAT Team, Lafayette Police Department SWAT Team, Vermilion Parish Sheriff Office, Baldwin Police Department and Jeanerette Police Department were all called out to help with the incident.
