LAFAYETTE, La. ( KLFY )– The 100 Club of Acadiana joins the community in mourning the loss of Lafayette Police Officer Cpl. Segus Jolivette who was fatally wounded in the line of duty . They extend their thoughts and prayers to the families of the officers involved in responding to a hostage situation in Jeanerette.
“Law enforcement is a dangerous job. Firefighting is a dangerous job and we need community support, especially now when we have such turmoil in the country,” Ed Roy, the president of the organization, said. “It’s our job as citizens, I think, to support the firefighters and police officers and that’s what we’re doing with the 100 Club [of Acadiana].”

Roy said the organization is a citizen-funded non-profit organization that began in 1953, and they provide immediate financial assistance to the dependent families of law enforcement officers and firefighters who are killed or seriously injured in the line of duty.
“The club is a response to what we had back in the eighties and nineties. Alfred Lamson had started this. I’m picking up the gauntlet along with our board of directors and my son Courtney, and we’re all going forward with this effort to revitalize the 100 Club [of Acadiana],” Roy said.

“Our objective now is to put as much money as possible as soon as we can so we can help the Jolivette family and also the other families that were affected by this tragedy,” he said.
He said their goal is to reach $100,000 and it can be achieved by finding 100 people or businesses throughout Acadiana to become members:
- Individual Life Membership: $1,000
- Business Life Membership: $1,500
Roy said the individual membership is payable in installments. He adds donations are better to go to the organization rather than creating a GoFundMe account.
“We’re 501 C3, totally tax deductible. We’re run by a board of directors and the money as opposed to going through a GoFundMe. This money is a better vehicle for getting more money to the people that we’re trying to help. It doesn’t get lost in the structure like a GoFundMe account,” Roy said.
“I’m looking for 100 people who want to step up to the plate and swing the bat and help our community,” he said. “If you’ve had a desire to do something positive for the community, this is your chance. This is an opportunity to financially put your support where your thoughts and heart happen to be.”
