On the Boards: Belmont Library modernization
An approximately 6,000-square-foot Multnomah County Library branch will soon receive improvements and grow to around 15,000 square feet. Bora Architecture & Interiors designed the $28 million project for the Belmont Library, in Portland at 1038 S.E. Cesar E. Chavez Blvd. It’s one of several library upgrades made possible by voters’ approval of a $387 million bond measure in 2020.
TriMet announces sweeping changes to light rail, bus service
TriMet on Sunday announced numerous changes to bus and light-rail service and described it as one of the biggest days in its history for transit updates. The changes include shifting late-night light-rail MAX service to buses and the addition of two bus lines. TriMet also eliminated three bus lines with low ridership that overlapped with other lines. Additional bus lines have been extended and will offer more frequent service. About 550 bus stops got updates, including new signage.

Retail theft mission ends in several arrests
A retail theft mission has resulted in numerous arrests and the recovery of stolen merchandise, drugs, and an unlawfully possessed firearm. On Friday, August 23, 2024, North Precinct officers and the precinct’s Neighborhood Response Team (NRT), in collaboration with the Organized Retail Crime Association of Oregon, the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office (MCDA), and multiple business partners, conducted a retail theft mission to combat retail theft in the Jantzen Beach area. The work resulted in the recovery of approximately $1,000 worth of stolen goods, the recovery of one stolen vehicle, the recovery of an unlawfully possessed firearm, and the recovery of seven ounces of methamphetamine. In addition, 18 people were either arrested or cited.

Portland Win Revives ABEL Motorsports Championship Aspirations
Jacob Abel secured his third victory of the season at the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix of Portland, maintaining ABEL Motorsports' championship ambitions. Starting second, Abel swiftly took the lead on the first lap, holding off championship leader Louis Foster. His teammate, Yuven Sundaramoorthy, overcame early race challenges to finish eighth. Despite the win, Abel remains 79 points behind Foster with two races left in the season. Abel's successful performance highlights both his and the team's strong season as they aim for INDYCAR in the future.
