On3.com is one of the industry leaders in recruiting rankings and NIL evaluation. As we near the football season, with the 2025 class beginning their senior high school season, On3 just updated their rankings after a busy offseason of skills camps.

Take this for what you will, but USC Trojans commit, Julian Lewis, has dropped down from a 5-star rated QB to a 4-star and has dropped all the way down to the 7th-ranked quarterback in the class. Ahead of him are:

    1. Bryce Underwood – LSU Commit
    2. Matt Zollars – Missouri Commit
    3. Tavien St. Clair – Ohio State Commit
    4. Deuce Knight – Notre Dame Commit
    5. Husan Longstreet – Texas A&M Commit
    6. Keelon Russell – Alabama Commit
    7. Julian Lewis – USC Commit

Lewis drops to the 7th-ranked QB in the class and the overall 44th-ranked player.

What Does This Mean For USC Trojans Commit Julian Lewis?

As mentioned, the drop in rating comes after off-season skills camps, but no real football has been played, so it is a bit curious. You have to suspect that this is more due to him reclassifying to the 2025 class from his original 2026 graduation date. He is one of the youngest and smallest QBs in the class, standing at 6’1 and weighing 186 pounds.

But what he lacks in size (at the moment) he makes up for in accuracy and ball skills.

247 Sports Andrew Ivins’ had this to say about Lewis after the Elite 11 camp just last month :

“He’s surgical with his ball placement. Lewis had the highest pro day score on Wednesday and followed that performance up with one of the cleaner 7-on-7 games as he barely put the ball in danger. Lewis might not have a prototypical build, but he has the makeup of a high-volume, up-tempo passer that can pick defenses apart.”

Julian Lewis may not have the size of a Bryce Underwood (6’3, 210), but he certainly fits the style that Lincoln Riley looks for. Baker Mayfield, Jalen Hurts, and Caleb Williams are all 6’1, and Kyler Murray is 5’10. Obviously, size is not an issue in the Lincoln Riley system, and at still just 16 years old, Lewis has plenty of time to get his weight up before he even takes a snap in college.

Some will see Lewis losing a star as a red flag, but to me, this has more to do with the fact that he reclassified and is now being compared to a new crop of QB talent. He has his entire final season in High School to prove his worth, reclaim that 5th star (all other recruiting outlets still have him listed as a 5-star), and put people at ease.

USC football fans should have no concerns about this…for the moment.
